Hello world,
I have written about the ins and outs of open source technology for many years, including well-funded commercial open source software (COSS) startups; Big Tech’s open source embrace; open source alternatives to proprietary products; license changes; startups exploring alternative licensing paradigms; and let’s not forget about open source AI.
Many companies now have dedicated open source program offices (OSPOs) and Chief Open Source Officers, providing formal structure and governance for their use and creation of open source software.
There’s a lot to keep tabs on, which is why I’m launching Forkable — a weekly, and entirely free, newsletter curating all the key news from across the open source ecosystem. Forkable will focus largely on traditional software, but it will also include AI, hardware, and any notable story centered on an “open” philosophy.
You’re all busy people, so Forkable will be concise — brevity is the name of the game. A bit of commentary, with links to read more.
Feel free to email me at: forkable [at] substack.com with feedback or questions.
The first proper post will be going out January 24, so sign up now.
